KEYNOTE INTRODUCTION - ANIKA MOLESWORTH
Hi, I’m Anika (pronounced A-nee-ka), and it’s great to meet you!
I spent most of my childhood in Melbourne, and like a lot of people living in a big city, I didn’t think too much about where the food on my plate had come from. My mum and dad brought home grocery bags from the local supermarket and cooked tasty meals for my brothers and me. Food was always there, and I guess I was complacent that it always would be too. I was 12 years old when my parents decided to buy a farm 1,000 kilometres away from Melbourne. City buildings and cars were replaced with open skies and paddocks with kangaroos. Food suddenly became something that did not originate from a supermarket, but from the farm that surrounded me.

I fell in love with the landscape and felt a tremendous privilege to be involved in growing food that would nourish people. With my family, I learnt the secrets of the soil, marvelled at the plants and animals, and developed a great sense of belonging to the rural community. But it was the decade-long Millennium drought that changed my life forever. Between the years 2000–2010, very little rain fell in much of Australia. My home became dry, and dust-storms turned the skies red. My heart ached watching the land suffer and how that pain was felt by my family and community. We obsessively looked at the skies, waiting for the rain to come again.
That’s when I started to join the dots between the land, the climate and the food on my plate. I knew I had to do something. I am a farmer, a scientist and a storyteller of a better future. Â
In 2015, I was named Young Farmer of the Year and went on to be awarded the 2017 Young Australian of the Year NSW Finalist, and 2017 NSW Young Achiever Award for Environment and Sustainability. In 2018, I was awarded the Green Globe Awards Young Sustainability Champion, the NSW/ACT Regional Achievement and Community Award for Agricultural Innovation, and the 350.org Heroes of a Low-Carbon Economy Youth Champion. In 2019, I was recognised as a Future Shaper by InStyle and Audi, and a Women of Influence by the Australian Financial Review. In 2020, I was awarded the Emily Hensley Award for self-discipline, integrity, compassion and contribution to the wider community. In 2022, I was recognised in the Top 100 Green Power Players.

In addition to drinks at the reception, the Awards Show Dinner will feature a three-course meal with waiter service at tables of ten. Guests will enjoy an entrée, main course, dessert and a choice of beverages, including sparkling/still wine, beer and non-alcoholic beverages.
Please note: Prior to the Awards Show, table tickets are not distributed.
AWARDS SHOW TICKET INCLUSIONS
Attend the awards ceremony to witness and participate in the live on-stage presentation of the winners. A three-course dinner will be served at tables during the eventful evening, which will begin with an inspiring keynote address titled “Our Sunburnt Country” by Award-Winning Author, Farmer, Scientist, and Storyteller Dr. Anika Molesworth.
DRESS CODE
The dress code for the LearnX Awards Show is smart casual as a minimum. You can also opt for evening/formal attire if you prefer. Professional photographs will be taken at the event, so please keep this in mind when selecting your outfit. Men’s shorts or ripped, torn jeans are not considered acceptable by Crown venue management.
BEST DRESSED PRIZE
Our event lead photographer, Mr. Anthony M. Leong, also known as Melbourne’s Master Photographer, will judge and award the best-dressed male and female attendees with a prize.

Keep in mind that there can be a lot of traffic during this time of year due to end-of-year celebrations, shopping, and activities. When going to and from the venue, allow ample time, especially for parking.
DIETARY
Crown requires all guests to confirm that they are over 18 years of age for RSA (Responsible Service of Alcohol) requirements. Guests under 18 will not be served or permitted to consume alcohol. Dietary Requirements – as advised by Crown Melbourne. Crown will make every effort to cater for guests with the following dietary requirements at no extra charge (subject to compliance with notification period below): vegetarian, vegan, low gluten, lactose intolerant or allergies. Any other additional special meal requests will incur a 25% surcharge per person. Please note charges may also apply for religious requirements including but not limited to Kosher and Halal requests. Any dietary requests received after 12pm three (3) standard business days prior to the event (Thursday 20th November) will be subject to a $30.00 per person surcharge which must be paid prior to the event. Additional special meals requested by guests on the day of or during the Event cannot be accommodated.
*Important notice – While Crown will endeavour to accommodate requests for meals for customers who have food allergies or intolerances, we cannot completely guarantee allergy-free meals due to the potential of trace allergens in the working environment and supplied ingredients.
